Downtown is becoming an exciting, convenient, and above all a wonderful place to live. The condominiums at the Terry Hutchens Building are equipped and finished as apartments in the new metropolitan contemporary style- The Loft. As warehouses, schools, and factories all over the country have been transformed into light, airy apartments, this design emphasizes informal, open plan urban living. The design concept at the Terry Hutchens Building is based on this innovative construction seen in historic buildings throughout the United States.
Using the original elevators, the lobbies on each floor are finished with ceramic tile that was chosen to match the original tile reflecting a historic tie.
The original stair well has been refurbished, and the new stair area has been designed to include the same details as the original. Many finishes in the first floor lobby are restored.
Leaving the exterior historically correct, the development team took great lengths to transform the interior into the loft idea. Exposing all conduit, duct work, and leaving the concrete beams and columns exposed, develop the concept. Few walls are included, with brick walls added to give the condo a warehouse feel. Wall finishes are a neutral color, with the exception of bright splashes of color on accent walls. All the flooring in the main living areas is hardwood, with doors and moldings stained a neutral stain to compliment the flooring. Ceramic tile is installed in the bathrooms and laundry rooms. All lighting and ceiling fans are of a metropolitan contemporary design.
Cooking in the kitchens could be developed into a culinary art event. All the appliances are Professional Series Viking, with stainless steel finishes.
Cabinets in the one bedroom suite are stained a black wash with Luna Pearl slab granite counter tops. In the two bedroom suite, the cabinets are a neutral stain with Tropic Brown counter tops. Both kitchen designs give the maximum amount of counter space for the area. In addition to large size refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, gas range/oven and designer oven vents, the one bedroom suite is equipped with a wine cooler, and the two bedroom suite has a warming drawer. Contemporary track lighting and satin nickel pendant lighting illuminate the areas.
Relaxing in the whirlpool tubs that have been included in all of the bathrooms, is an escape from the downtown world. Cabinetry is solid wood stained a neutral stain with Uba Tuba granite counter tops. The one bedroom suite has a separate ceramic tile shower as well as a corner whirlpool garden tub. The two bedroom suite has two separate bathrooms with whirlpool/shower combinations in ceramic tile alcoves. A dramatic look is represented in the Powder Room, in the one bedroom suite, using a wall mounted faucet and contemporary vessel sink on a granite top table.
Accent paint colors on the walls in all the bath areas give a distinctive look. Lighting above the sinks and at the ceiling reflect the satin nickel finish used throughout the loft condo.
Laundering at the apartment is convenient with both condos equipped with a Maytag washer/dryer combination. Also, a cabinet with a counter top is built in the one bedroom condo. A built-in pantry/broom closet in included in the two bedroom closet.
Viewing Downtown Huntsville from the numerous exterior windows is the best asset of the apartment. The original windows spaces were replaced with new windows, with the exception of the balcony area. An exterior door was added, accessing the apartment to a New Orleans style balcony with a wonderful view.
